Auction House Collections Without the Courier Treatment

Buying at auction is often the easy part. The challenge comes afterwards: arranging collection within the auction house deadline, understanding the size and condition of the item, getting suitable access and transporting it safely to its new home.

The Road To London is designed for exactly that kind of work. We are professional movers and delivery specialists, not a parcel network. Furniture, antiques and larger purchases are planned as handled items rather than anonymous packages moving between depots.

For this specialist service, we bring together the heritage of the Stephen Hartley business, established in 1985 around house clearance, antiques and auction transport, with the professional moving operation of Balboa Champion Movers. The Road To London remains the service you book; the names behind it reflect the experience and expertise supporting the work.

From Saleroom to Your Door

We can coordinate directly around the collection requirements provided by the auction house. Give us the saleroom details, buyer or lot information where required, collection deadline, destination postcode and photographs or dimensions of the purchase.

Where practical, we can also collect several purchases on the same journey. That can be useful for buyers, dealers and interior professionals sourcing from more than one location.

Furniture, Antiques and Larger Purchases

The service is particularly suited to furniture and bulky items that are poorly served by conventional parcel delivery. Before collection we can discuss dimensions, weight, fragile elements, stairs, parking and whether an item needs dismantling or special preparation.

If an item is unusually heavy, exceptionally valuable or requires specialist lifting or conservation handling, tell us before booking so we can establish whether it falls within the service we can safely provide.

Delivery, Positioning & Straightforward Installation

Some purchases need more than transport from the saleroom to the kerb. Where arranged in advance, we can help position furniture and larger items at the property, reassemble suitable pieces and assist with straightforward installation where appropriate.

This can include garden ornaments and statues, benches and outdoor furniture, large planters, mirrors and artwork, wardrobes, beds and other bulky auction purchases.

Access, weight, fixings and the item’s requirements are assessed before the job. Specialist structural, electrical or plumbing work is not included.

Part Loads for Auction Purchases

An auction purchase does not always justify a dedicated vehicle. Where the item, timing and route are compatible, it may be possible to use our part-load removals and shared transport service between London and the South West.

This is especially useful when the collection date has some flexibility. If the auction house has a strict deadline, tell us immediately so we can assess whether a shared journey is realistic or a dedicated collection is the better option.

Our London and South West Collection Corridor

Our main route connects Cardiff and South Wales, Bristol, Bath, Swindon, Newbury, Reading, Slough and London in both directions. We can also consider sensible diversions to auction houses, storage facilities, dealers and private addresses near the corridor.

The route is deliberately flexible. Send us the actual collection and delivery postcodes and we will assess the journey rather than relying only on city boundaries.

Pianos and Other Specialist Purchases

If an auction purchase is a piano or another item requiring additional preparation, tell us before collection. Our piano removal service covers suitable upright, baby grand and grand piano moves, including appropriate preparation for transport and refitting of suitable removed components.

For Private Buyers, Dealers and Businesses

We can help private auction buyers as well as antique dealers, interior designers, retailers and other businesses that need professional collection and onward delivery. Repeat or multi-collection work can be planned around the same route where the timings and vehicle capacity make sense.

Experienced, Insured Movers

The Road To London is operated by Balboa Champion Movers. The team has earned 100+ 5-star Google reviews, and the service is backed by £10,000 Goods in Transit insurance and £1 million Public Liability insurance.

What to Send Us for a Quote

Send the auction house or collection address, destination postcode, collection deadline, lot or buyer details required for release, photographs, dimensions where available and any information about access. With those details we can assess the vehicle, handling and timing properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you collect directly from an auction house?

Yes. Provide the collection instructions and any buyer or lot information the auction house requires for release, together with the collection deadline.

Can you collect more than one lot?

Yes, where the items and collection arrangements are suitable. We can also consider multiple collection addresses when they can be planned efficiently.

Can an auction purchase travel as a part load?

Potentially. If the item is suitable and the collection deadline aligns with another compatible journey, part-load transport may be possible. Otherwise we can consider a dedicated collection.

Do you deliver into London as well as out of London?

Yes. The service operates in both directions along the route.
